Yvonne Orji was born on December 2nd, 1983, in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. She moved to the United States at age 6 and was raised in Laurel, Maryland. Her parents are both Nigerian and she grew up in a devoutly religious household.

Orji attended George Washington University, where she studied sociology and minored in theatre. She was initially pre-med, but ultimately decided to pursue her passion for acting.
Career
Orji started her career as a stand-up comedian, performing in clubs and colleges across the United States. She later transitioned to acting and landed her breakout role as Molly Carter on HBO’s hit series, Insecure, in 2016.
