In 2003, he was elected as a member of the Federal House of Representatives, representing the Owo/Ose Federal Constituency. He was re-elected in 2007 and served as the Chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream). In 2015, he was elected as a Senator representing Ondo Central Senatorial District. He was re-elected in 2019 and currently serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream).
