He has claimed in an interview that “my grandparents helped shape who I am today” and that his grandma “was like a mother to me.” When he was thirteen, his mother remarried.
In 2017, his sibling passed away from an unspecified illness. At the age of 16, Ryan Adams pulled out of Jacksonville High School in the tenth grade. He then moved into bandmate Jere McIlwean’s rental home, which is located just outside of Jacksonville.
He participated in and gave performances with a number of local ensembles at this time, most notably The Patty Duke Syndrome, which he co-founded with McIlwean.
