Ogiame Atuwatse III was born on April 2, 1984, in Warri, Delta State, Nigeria, as Prince Godfrey Emiko. He is the son of late Ogiame Atuwatse II, the previous Olu of Warri. He grew up in Warri and completed his primary education at the Hussey College in Warri.
He went on to attend the Nigerian Navy Secondary School in Abeokuta and later obtained a Bachelor’s degree in International Studies and Diplomacy from the Benson Idahosa University, Benin City, Nigeria.
