Abdulrahman Dambazau was born on 14 March, 1954 in Kano State, Nigeria. He started his elementary education in the state and later attended Government Secondary School, Kafanchan, and later in Government College, Kaduna.
After completing his secondary education, Dambazau attended the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna State from where he graduated with a degree in science.
After being admitted to the Nigerian Defence Academy in 1977, Dambazau started his career as a Second Lieutenant in the Nigerian Army.
